Police Conduct Awareness Operation on Roundabout Safety in Gourcy

Gourcy:The National Police of Gourcy carried out an awareness and cleanup operation at the market square roundabout on Thursday, October 22, 2026. The initiative aimed to educate road users about the rules for navigating roundabouts.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Police Adjutant Pascal Zoungrana emphasized the importance of driving with the roundabout on the left to numerous road users. The operation also involved clearing traders who had obstructed traffic flow by setting up stalls on the public road.

The police intervention was designed to reduce frequent accidents at this strategic intersection. Adjutant Zoungrana noted that these accidents are often caused by drivers failing to control and respect the traffic flow at the newly constructed roundabout, as well as by the chaotic occupation of public spaces.

The preventative measures received positive feedback from road users. Oumarou Ouédraogo, one such user, expressed gratitude for the guidance provided by the police, which he believes will enhance safety. The National Police also plan to continue their presence at the roundabout, focusing on mandatory helmet use and ensuring order, especially after the tragic death of a tomato seller last year at this site.
