Koubri:The Koubri Medical Center organized a breast cancer awareness and screening day on Thursday, October 22, 2026, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This event aimed to enhance prevention and early detection efforts for breast cancer.
According to Burkina Information Agency, a large gathering, primarily of women, assembled at the medical center's courtyard by 730 a.m. Dr. Madina Ouédraogo, the head physician, opened the ceremony with a welcome address, expressing gratitude for the strong female turnout and acknowledging the support from administrative authorities, Bogodogo health district officials, and partners.
The event, themed "A woman screened is a woman saved, a family protected," addressed a significant public health issue. Dr. Ouédraogo noted the importance of participating in Breast Cancer Awareness Month through activities like awareness campaigns, consultations, and screenings, highlighting the disease as a major concern for health authorities.
Larissa Bognana, vice-president of the Tietaa Main Tendue association, underscored the necessity of these awareness events due to the prevalent lack of information about breast cancer. She expressed confidence that increased awareness would lead to early screenings and appropriate measures being taken.
Participants received individual consultations and mammograms facilitated by a mobile clinic. Many beneficiaries appreciated the initiative for providing a better understanding of the risks and the importance of early detection. Awa Dabilgou, a teacher, shared her experience, noting how the information and images moved her to overcome her fears and undergo a mammogram, which thankfully revealed no issues. She emphasized the importance of regular breast self-exams to prevent dire outcomes.
