Doumbala:School council offices in the Doumbala Basic Education District (CEB) are mobilizing endogenous financial resources through the collection and sale of brooms to cover certain operating expenses, particularly those related to the start of the school year.
According to Burkina Information Agency, several schools in the Doumbala Basic Education District have developed local initiatives to replenish their funds and meet the initial expenses of the school year without systematically resorting to external aid.
In collaboration with parents and teachers, some schools organized broom collections, setting a quota per student. The collected brooms are then grouped together and sold to fund the schools' needs. At Nian school, around 400 brooms were collected and sold, while Konkuy-Boho school collected more than 1,000.
The chairman of the Nian school council, Drissa Konaté, explained that this initiative addresses the financial difficulties encountered at the beginning of each school year. He stated that the collected brooms were sold to cover the school's initial expenses, pending payment of the council's operating costs.
In Konkuy-Boho, Ceface Traoré, responsible for mobilizing financial resources for the school council office, emphasized the importance of relying on their own capabilities to meet the needs of the institutions. The sale of approximately 1,000 brooms brought in 60,000 FCFA, covering all of the establishment's initial expenses.
The headmaster of the Nian school, Harouna Traoré, praised the creativity of the parents of students and encouraged other schools to adopt similar initiatives. This approach illustrates the ability of educational communities to leverage local resources to contribute to the funding of school needs and strengthen the autonomy of school councils.
