Ouagadougou: The high commissioner of the Gnagna province, Jean Baptiste Béogo, chaired, Thursday July 25 in Bogandé, an advocacy meeting for a successful seasonal malaria chemo-prevention campaign (SMC). in the Bogandé health district.The Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) campaign involves administering medicines to healthy children aged 3 to 59 months to protect them from malaria disease during the rainy season. It is coupled with screening for malnutrition as well as the identification and destruction of larval breeding sites.According to communicator Ba-Mohammed Sessouma, the medicine administered is intended only for the prevention and not the treatment of malaria.The first round of the seasonal malaria chemo-prevention campaign (CPS) in the Bogandé health district takes place from July 26 to 29, 2024. The campaign is punctuated by four rounds spaced 28 days apart from each other.For the smooth running of the seasonal malaria chemo-prevention campaign, the High Commissioner of Gnagna, Jean Baptiste Béogo, with the health authorities, led a plea to customary and religious authorities and community leaders. To this end, the High Commissioner requested the support of community and association leaders in mobilizing their communities to achieve the objectives.The door-to-door and fixed site strategies are used by distributors or health workers to reach the target. According to Dr Moussa Sawadogo, chief medical officer of the Bogandé health district, children sick with malaria or being treated with cotrimoxazole should not be included. 'They absolutely must be treated and cured before being included,' he recommended.It is also advisable, in the event of major adverse effects, to refer the case immediately to the nearest health and social promotion center.
