Ouagadougou: A new initiative by the Consultation Framework of NGOs and Associations Active in Basic Education in Burkina Faso (CCEB-BF) is set to introduce social and financial education across educational levels from preschool to university. This initiative aims to teach learners the crucial differences between needs and desires and emphasizes the importance of saving to foster entrepreneurial skills.According to Burkina Information Agency, Ilboudo Kassoum, the chairman of the board of directors of CCEB-BF, highlighted the significance of financial education during the launch of the second edition of the national education week in Ouagadougou. Kassoum expressed support for integrating social and financial education into the school curriculum, aiming to transform young people into agents of change with a culture of social and economic responsibility.Ilboudo Kassoum further elaborated that the program equips young people with essential knowledge and skills to make informed financial decisions, impacting t heir personal well-being positively. The program's approach includes age-specific financial education themes such as Aflatot for preschool, Aflatin for primary school, Aflatin+ for secondary school, and Aflayou at the university level.Assane Dramane Sankara, Alfatoun's representative for French-speaking Africa, explained that the program revolves around five core themes: personal understanding and exploration, rights and responsibilities, saving and spending, planning and budgeting, and business creation. He emphasized that the saving and spending theme helps learners differentiate between needs and wants to prevent wastefulness.Sankara also mentioned that planning and budgeting are designed to teach students how to save and establish budgets based on their income. The integration of social and financial education into the civic and moral education program is already present in more than 40 educational establishments.Mr. Sankara expressed gratitude towards technical and financial partners who supported CCEB-BF in curriculum development and teacher training. The second edition of the education week organized by CCEB-BF will take place from October 26 to 31, 2024, at the Maison de la Femme in Ouagadougou, under the theme "Contribution of education to the socio-economic resilience of populations in Burkina Faso: case of the promotion of social and financial education in schools".The opening ceremony was led by Jacques Sosthène Dingara, Minister in charge of National Education, representing the Prime Minister, Dr. Apollinaire Kyelem of Tambèla.
