Bam Province Observes Silence for Burkina Faso Martyrs in Emotional Tribute.

Bam: The Forces vives of the Bam province paid tribute on Thursday to the martyrs of Burkina Faso, by observing a minute of silence at the Kongoussi high commission, followed by a message from High Commissioner Adama Jean Yves Béré. It was at 10 o'clock universal time that the minute of silence was observed. During the meditation, a siren sounded to invite everyone to keep silent in memory of the martyrs of the Nation.According to Burkina Information Agency, at the end of this phase, the national anthem was sung before High Commissioner Béré took the floor to deliver his message. Adama Jean Yves Béré recalled the institution of this day of homage to martyrs by the Transitional Legislative Assembly. Indeed, Law No. 004-2022/ALT establishing the status of martyr and invalid of the Nation, adopted on June 10, 2022, devotes this day.The High Commissioner also clarified that the choice of October 31 for the commemoration is not fortuitous, because it refers to the popular uprising of October 30 and 31, 2014, w hich resulted in many deaths and injuries. "I bow, on behalf of the entire province, with the recognition and respect due to those who sacrificed their lives for others. From now on, never again such a crime in Burkina Faso," he declared.As a reminder, the martyr of the Nation is defined by law as "any person killed or died as a result of injuries or torture, kidnapped or disappeared in circumstances endangering his life during political crises, popular uprisings or, in general, for a cause of national interest."
