Bobo-Dioulasso: Burkinabe cyclist Abdoul Wahabou Bouda of the Central regional team triumphed in the 6th stage of the Tour du Faso, covering 107 kilometers in Bobo-Dioulasso, marking Burkina Faso's first stage victory in the competition that began on October 25. Bouda secured the win ahead of Malian cyclist Tiémoko Diallo, ending Burkina Faso's victory drought in this prestigious international event.According to Burkina Information Agency, Wahabou Bouda achieved this victory by completing the 107 kilometers in 2 hours, 42 minutes, and 44 seconds, maintaining an average speed of 39.455 km/h. The win was reminiscent of last year's performance by another Burkinabe, Paul Daumont, on the same boulevard. The efforts leading to Bouda's success were initiated by Kanhaye Soulama, who executed one of the longest breakaways of the Tour alongside Cameroonian Steeve Ngueguim Auriol, dominating the race for 7 out of 10 laps and sharing the intermediate bonus sprints.Reflecting on past victories, the current race echoed the 2004 Tour du Faso, where Burkinabe cyclist Abdoul Wahab Sawadogo claimed victory at the Bobo-Dioulasso stage. This year, Wahabou Bouda, a physical education teacher from Boussé, continued this legacy by securing the first win for Burkina Faso's Etalons Cyclistes. Despite not claiming the yellow jersey from Moroccan cyclist El Kouradji Mohcine, Bouda's triumph provided hope and reassurance to the Burkinabe teams and authorities.Minister of Sports Roland Somda expressed his delight, stating, "This victory is proof of resilience for our riders. The 6th stage marked the 13th closed circuit in Bobo-Dioulasso, which has hos ted 41 stage arrivals in 35 editions, with Burkina Faso winning 15, including Bouda's recent victory.The Tour will continue with the 7th stage tomorrow, covering 130.800 kilometers between Bobo-Dioulasso.
