Ouagadougou: The information and communication agency, 'Mediacom-Faso Kibaaru' Group, concluded its national awareness campaign against disinformation, manipulation, and hate speech on Thursday in Ouagadougou. The agency urged communities to disseminate messages of appeasement through its platform.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the group's president, Boubacar Dicko, announced that a roadmap will be developed at the end of the closing ceremony, committing all communities to transmit their messages to Faso Kibaaru. The initiative aims to foster communication between communities via WhatsApp groups set up by Mediacom-Faso Kibaaru to disseminate messages of peace and social cohesion.
Mr. Dicko emphasized that the agency is dedicated to crafting messages that counteract negative content and encourage reason, urging the population to not believe everything shared on social media. He reiterated the group's mission to raise awareness about the dangers of hate speech and violence targeting certain communities.
The awareness campaign, launched on April 12, 2025, aims to enhance communication between communities and promote unity, solidarity, and resistance to misinformation. Mr. Dicko called on community leaders to support Mediacom-Faso Kibaaru's efforts to restore trust between communities.
The Emir of Djibo, representing community leaders, urged all Burkinabe, including the media, to share fair and truthful information. He emphasized the importance of harmony among communities, stating that while regimes may change, the communities and territory remain.
He warned against the dangers of misinformation and hatred, highlighting the destructive outcomes seen in wars, and stressed the futility of attempting to eradicate an ethnic group.
The meeting, themed "What contributions can leaders and all Burkinabe make to efforts for peace and living together?" concluded with the awarding of prizes to young participants in a peace and social cohesion competition.
