Burkina Trade Union Urges Government to Address Workers’ Concerns

Ouagadougou: The Trade Union Action Unit (UAS) has urged the government to address the concerns of Burkinabe workers, following the submission of its platform of demands on Labor Day. Ernest Ou©draogo, the president of the unions, presented the demands to Mathias Traor©, the Minister of Civil Service, Labor and Social Protection, at the administration modernization building on May 1, 2025.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Mr. Ou©draogo outlined the content of the platform, which includes concerns that have carried over from previous years, as well as new issues. Key demands include increasing pensions for retirees, stopping levies on social security funds such as CARFO and CNSS, and revising the salary scale for workers in state-owned and mixed-economy companies. Mr. Ou©draogo expressed hope that these concerns would be carefully examined by the government.

Minister Traor©, after receiving the platform, assured the UAS delegation that the government's attention would be given to the grievances submitted for the year 2025. He also extended his wishes for a happy Labor Day to the union members. The submission of these demands aligns with the celebration of May 1, International Workers' Day.
