Toma: The village of Kisson, in the province of Nayala, experienced a historic day with the inauguration of its brand new maternity hospital, a symbol of a strong commitment to maternal and child health.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this development is the result of a partnership between the Ministry of Health, the NGO Pathfinder, and the Dutch Embassy. The newly established maternity unit is a significant advancement for healthcare accessibility in the region.
Zakaria Sawadogo, Prefect and President of the Toma Special Delegation, praised the completion of this community health center. He expressed optimism that similar infrastructure would be available to every village in the commune, deeming it crucial for reducing self-medication and improving proximity to health services for the population.
The operational Kisson health center is equipped with a waiting room, treatment room, observation room, an office for the community health worker, a pharmaceutical depot, latrines, and a borehole that supplies a water tower.
According to Dr. Harouna Sissao, head physician of the Toma health district, the maternity ward adheres to standards and will enable effective treatment, particularly addressing cases of malnutrition.
The NGO Pathfinder, represented by Dr. Denis Bognini, emphasized the training of 300 health workers across 16 districts, underlining the role of community involvement in managing the infrastructure. Serving over 1,165 people, including internally displaced persons, the center was established with an investment of nearly 65 million CFA francs.
The inauguration ceremony concluded with a tour of the facility and the planting of fruit trees, symbolizing a hopeful future for health in Kisson.
