Koudougou:Abdoulaye Boumba successfully defended his doctoral thesis at Norbert-Zongo University in Koudougou, analyzing the Catholic Church's contribution to women's emancipation in the Nakambé region. His work received the highest distinction.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the thesis, titled "Catholic Church and the Emancipation of Women in the Nakambé Region of Burkina Faso, from 1900 to 2025," examines the evolution of women's status and the Church's actions promoting women's rights. Boumba highlighted that while existing studies often address the Church's educational and health efforts, few focus on its role in women's emancipation.
Boumba's research indicates that the arrival of Catholic missionaries led to significant changes in societal perceptions and the roles of women, who were traditionally excluded from decision-making. He emphasized the Church's initiatives in gender equality and vocational training as deserving of recognition, even by non-religious researchers.
Professor Salifou Idani, Boumba's thesis director, noted the study's contribution to historical science in Burkina Faso, stressing the ongoing relevance of women's emancipation. Dr. Maxime Relwindé Compaoré, the jury chairman, praised the work's scientific contribution and suggested further exploration of certain aspects.
Boumba hopes his research will inform public policy, particularly in supporting women and training young girls in vulnerable situations. The jury included experts from various universities, recognizing Boumba's work as a valuable reference for future initiatives.
