AES Plans Radio Station to Counter Foreign Narratives in Sahel

Ouagadougou: The Confederation of States of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) is planning to establish a radio station aimed at countering foreign narratives and delivering quality information to populations in the Sahel region, AIB learned on Tuesday.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the primary objective of the AES radio station is to provide an alternative to foreign narratives, enabling people to access quality information and analyze the issues they face. Christian Ouattara, chief of staff of Burkinabe Minister of Communication Gilbert Pingdwend© Ou©draogo, emphasized that the media outlet will empower people to become active participants in the development of their shared region.

Ouattara highlighted that the AES radio station is designed to be a tool for awareness, education, and consciousness-raising, serving as an essential communication channel in an area known for its cultural and linguistic diversity. He made these comments during the opening of a 48-hour validation workshop in Ouagadougou, which brought together experts from Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger to discuss the project.

"The discussions should ultimately lead to a clear and precise roadmap for launching the new radio station. The workshop aims to finalize the process initiated several months ago by a working group in Burkina Faso," Ouattara stated.

He further noted that the creation of the AES radio is a response to the urgent need to enhance existing information and communication tools within the three states.
