Ouagadougou: Correspondents and officials of the Burkina Information Agency (AIB), meeting in Ouagadougou for their annual meeting, took a tourist visit on Saturday afternoon to the granite sculpture site of Laongo, in the Bassitenga province.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the delegation, comprising more than sixty participants, toured the various works of the site, created since 1989, discovering an artistic heritage that reveals the history, social realities, and aspirations of African peoples. The outing took place in a friendly atmosphere, filled with laughter, conversation, and photography. Correspondents and agency staff took advantage of this tourist immersion to strengthen relationships and reinforce trust among colleagues, following the work of their annual meeting.

'If you have never visited this site and you come to see what people have been able to make with their hands, it's incredible. It's really very impressive,' testified Aminata Akodoum, AIB's local correspondent in Niaogho. She wished that the site visit days be extended to students, teachers, and professors, in order to allow them to better understand the history of the works and to complement theoretical teachings with a concrete experience.

For Obkiri Mien, the Agency's provincial correspondent in Bal, Laongo is "a media, a book, a story and a life". According to him, the sculptures displayed outdoors refer both to the past of societies, to the current realities of Burkina Faso, and to the efforts made by the people, the youth, and the Defense and Security Forces. "There are works to discover, works to share, a space to cover and promote. It is Burkina Faso that is almost there, but also Africa and the whole world," he said, inviting Burkinabe who do not yet know the site to visit it.

Taking the opportunity, the Director General of AIB, Noufo Enok Kindo, congratulated all those involved in organizing this tourist outing. He encouraged them to maintain cohesion and a family spirit within the Agency. Comrade Kindo thanked the Minister in charge of Communication, Pingdwend Gilbert Oudraogo, for the multifaceted support provided in the organization of this important meeting with AIB correspondents.

This visit concluded the work of the annual meeting of AIB correspondents, held on September 11 and 12, 2026, in Ouagadougou, dedicated to projecting the challenges and prospects of the Agency as well as strengthening the skills of correspondents in producing reliable and useful information for Burkina Faso.
