Ambassador Elyse OUEDRAOGO Strengthens Burkina Faso-Ethiopia Ties With Presentation of Credentials

Addis ababa: His Excellency Elyse OUEDRAOGO, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Burkina Faso to Addis Ababa, presented his Letters of Credence to His Excellency Mr. Taye Atske SELASSIE, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, on Thursday, January 15. The ceremony at the National Palace included military honors and an official presentation, facilitating discussions between the President and invited diplomats.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Ambassador OUEDRAOGO conveyed greetings from Burkina Faso's President, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, and emphasized Burkina Faso's commitment to its long-standing diplomatic relations with Ethiopia. The ambassador highlighted potential areas for strengthened collaboration, including urbanization, infrastructure, energy, crafts, and agriculture.

Recognizing shared security challenges, OUEDRAOGO expressed a desire for enhanced cooperation in security and defense sectors to combat insecurity and terrorism. He advocated for the support and strengthening of the existing Framework Cooperation Agreement through a joint cooperation commission.

President Taye Atske SELASSIE expressed optimism for intensified bilateral relations and praised Burkina Faso's leadership, especially Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, in advocating for African sovereignty and independence. The presentation marks a new phase in diplomatic relations with prospects for a balanced partnership.

The credentials ceremony followed a prior presentation of figurative copies of the Letters of Credence to Dr. AZIZA Geleta, Director of State Protocol of the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador OUEDRAOGO's appointment was confirmed by the Council of Ministers on December 4, 2025.
