Bam: CODEC-Ouahigouya trains farmers on good agricultural practices

Ouagadougou: More than 60 people from the commune of Sabcé, mainly women, were trained by the Diocesan Savings and Credit Cooperative of Ouahigouya (CODEC-Ouahigouya) from August 26 to 28, 2024 in Sabcé on good agricultural practices with a view to improving their production.67 people from the villages of Nôh, Zandkom, Bissa Sabcé, Ouazelé, Boussouma, Nôh, Souryala, Mafoulou, Lefourba and Ouintini in the commune of Sabcé benefited from this three-day training.According to the Director General of CODEC-Ouahigouya, Antoine Ouédraogo, the participants were trained on new agricultural production techniques (cereals and legumes) and the value chain approach. "This training aims to equip those interested on how to improve their agricultural productivity through new production techniques, the choice of agricultural inputs, harvest conservation techniques and the search for outlets, while hoping for a good season," he said. For Mr. Ouédraogo, this activity is part of the implementation of the project called: "Fi nancing the agricultural sector to reduce poverty in the North-Central region of Burkina Faso", on behalf of the activities of the "Africa Trade and Investment" program. It is co-financed by USAID and Feed the Future. The participants have assimilated the knowledge acquired well, according to their representative, Pascaline Sanfo, from sector 3 of Sabcé."We learned a lot and we are very happy with CODEC-Ouahigouya and its partners, in this case USAID and Feed the Future. We learned the different agricultural production techniques and how to preserve the produce after harvest. For example, we did not know that women should not handle pesticides and other products. With this training, we have learned all this, and we will even share what we learned with our co-wives who were not selected,' said Mrs. Sanfo. This training session, the fourth of its kind, is one of the specific activities of the project, which include the financing of microprojects, coverage of drought risk through subscription to agricultu ral insurance, and support for the formalization of agricultural businesses. As a reminder, CODEC-Ouahigouya was created on September 6, 2008 under the leadership of Monsignor Justin Kientega, bishop of the diocese of Ouahigouya, and officially recognized on May 8, 2009.It operates in the North and Centre-North regions with five agencies, including one based in Kongoussi.Source: Burkina Information Agency
