Abuja: The National Agency for Environmental Assessments (ANEVE) held two sessions of the Technical Committee for Environmental Assessments (COTEVE) in Banfora on July 23 and 24, 2026, dedicated to reviewing the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) reports for two major industrial projects. These projects include the establishment of an agri-food industrial complex in Soubani©dougou, Tannounyan region of Comoprovince, and the construction of a leather and hide processing industrial complex in K©k©lesso, district number 3 of the municipality of Bobo-Dioulasso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Arouna Sawadogo, head of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment department at ANEVE's Western regional office, indicated that these sessions aimed to verify the compliance of ESIA reports with current national regulations. They also sought to improve the quality of the studies produced to facilitate project implementation and provide the relevant authorities with all necessary information for informed decision-making.
The Soubani©dougou project plans to establish an agri-food industrial complex for processing agricultural products, including the production of puree, fruit concentrate, juice, cocktails, water, and soft drinks.
The K©k©lesso project focuses on creating an industrial complex specializing in the processing of hides and skins, aiming to promote local transformation of this resource and contribute to the industrial development of the country.
At the end of the work, experts from the Technical Committee formulated several recommendations to strengthen the quality of studies and ensure better consideration of environmental and social issues. The two Environmental and Social Impact Assessment reports were validated subject to the integration of the observations issued by COTEVE before proceeding with the projects.
Participants noted that this step guarantees sustainable industrial development, balancing economic imperatives, environmental protection, and the interests of the population. The promoters of the two projects reaffirmed their commitment to incorporating all recommendations to ensure their investments comply strictly with environmental and social standards.
As a reminder, the National Agency for Environmental Assessments (ANEVE) is responsible for implementing the national policy on environmental assessments. It oversees the review and validation of environmental and social impact studies, monitors the environmental compliance of development projects, and integrates environmental and social concerns into policies, programs, and projects to promote sustainable development in Burkina Faso.
