Bawiga Triumphs in Wakanda Football Tournament with 1-0 Victory

Ouagadougou: The High Commissioner of the Nahouri province, Si© Aristide Mohamed Kam, presided over the final of the 3rd edition of the Wakanda football tournament in P´. The Bawiga team from Sapouy emerged victorious against the Tiakan© team from P´ with a score of 1-0.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the final marked the conclusion of a tournament held under the theme "Playing together, living together." The competition, which began on February 7, 2026, featured 42 teams from the provinces of Nahouri, Ziro, and Sissili. It was initiated by the Wakanda project as part of the closing activities of the Participatory Management of Sustainable Development Project in the Periphery of Protected Landscape Areas (PONASI), known as Landscape-PONASI-Wakanda.

The Bawiga team secured victory after a challenging match, lifting the cup by defeating the local Tiakan© team. Koffi Mickael Yam©ogo, the Country Representative of the NGO Nitidae, highlighted the connection between sport and landscape preservation. He emphasized that the tournament serves to embed environmental actions within the community's social fabric.

Si© Aristide Mohamed Kam, the High Commissioner, praised the initiative for its social impact, emphasizing unity and cohesion among youth from different provinces. He remarked that the theme is crucial for the country's stability and congratulated the organizers and players for fostering unity.

The Bawiga team was awarded the trophy, 150,000 CFA francs, medals, a set of jerseys, and a ball. The Tiakan© team received 75,000 CFA francs, jerseys, medals, and a ball. All participating teams were recognized with prizes, and certificates of recognition were also presented to exemplary producers for their contributions to the project.
