Baz¨ga Day of Customs and Traditions: Doumtenga Residents Seek Ancestral Blessings for Prosperity

Baz¨ga: The chief of the village of Doumtenga, Naaba Koanga, and his people in the commune of Sapon© implored their ancestors for peace, health, and prosperity on Friday, May 15, 2026, a day dedicated to customs and traditions. The sacrifice of chickens and goats, entertainment, demonstrations of traditional women's activities, and a presentation of the village's history marked the highlights of the day.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the village of Doumtenga in the commune of Sapon©, Baz¨ga province experienced a traditional festive atmosphere on Friday, May 15, 2026. The event coincided with the national day of customs and traditions, observed every May 15 in Burkina Faso. The residents of Doumtenga gathered around their chief Naaba Koanga to commemorate this occasion, alongside several guests.

Early in the morning, the local people and their descendants paid their respects to Naaba Koanga at his palace. Together with the chief, they then proceeded to the sacred site where the Teng-Soaba (land chief) awaited them for the sacrifice of chickens and goats that each had brought. This ritual was an opportunity to implore God and the ancestors for peace in Burkina Faso, health, prosperity, and abundant rainfall for good agricultural harvests for the people.

Back at the palace, the day continued with a presentation of the history of Doumtenga by a village elder and demonstrations of traditional women's activities such as cotton spinning and millet grinding. These demonstrations were followed by entertainment featuring traditional dances performed by women beautifully dressed in traditional attire.

Naaba Koanga expressed satisfaction with the day's events, which brought together people and highlighted their commitment to traditions. "It is a beautiful day and we thank the highest authorities of the country for having instituted it to be celebrated every year," he said.
