Baz¨ga: The provincial ceremony for International Women's Day in Baz¨ga was held on March 8, 2026, in the commune of Ipelce, where the provincial high commissioner urged the population, particularly women, to promote peace and social cohesion.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event took place in the province of Baz¨ga, with the commune of Ipelce serving as the venue for this year's celebration of the 169th International Women's Day. The theme was "Building lasting peace in Burkina Faso: what contributions can women and girls make to promoting social cohesion?"
Tene Justine Kientega/Ilboudo, the High Commissioner of Baz¨ga Province, presided over the ceremony. She emphasized the importance of the theme, highlighting the resilient strength inherent in every Burkinab¨ woman. She stated that Burkina Faso is at a pivotal moment in its history, and the quest for lasting peace must be prioritized.
Ms. Kientega noted that women and girls are not only victims of crises but are also the first guardians of peace. She called on the women of the province to intensify their efforts in promoting peace and social cohesion through education, community mediation, and economic empowerment. Girls were encouraged to challenge prejudices and become ambassadors of national unity.
During the event, Ms. Kientega paid tribute to women affected by gender-based violence and those in security-challenged areas who continue their efforts in silence. The ceremony featured a skit performance and a presentation on the activities of the women of the commune.
Under the patronage of Issaka Eric Tapsoba, a member of the Transitional Legislative Assembly, a fundraising event was organized to support internally displaced persons, widows, and orphans. The event was attended by administrative and traditional authorities, as well as local residents.
