Ouagadougou: Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, and Development Cooperation, Maxime Prvot, reaffirmed on Thursday in Korsimoro Belgium's commitment to pursuing cooperation based on concrete results, following a field visit to several projects supported for the benefit of the people of the Kouls region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Belgian delegation, led by Mr. Prvot and including the Belgian ambassador to Burkina Faso, Erwin De Wandel, and the Burkina Faso ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, Lopold Bounkoungou, visited several projects in the fields of agroecology, health, and recovery for the benefit of the populations of the Kouls region, particularly in the communes of Korsimoro and Kaya.
Led by the acting governor of the Kouls region, Bernadette Adenyo/Serm, and in the presence of representatives of implementing partners, the delegation successively visited an integrated agroecological farm in Korsimoro, the medical center in sector 1 of Kaya, a site for internally displaced persons, and a training center.
Following the visit to these projects supported by Belgian cooperation as part of a project to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable households to the effects of climate change, the Belgian Foreign Minister expressed his satisfaction with the results achieved on the ground.
"We are committed to solidarity along several lines," summarized Maxime Prvot, assuring that the people of Burkina Faso can "count on the cooperation of Belgium" to continue the efforts undertaken.
"What I want is international cooperation with results, not just grand speeches. We need a diplomacy of action," said Maxime Prvot.
He assured that his country will continue its support for Burkina Faso, focusing on the priorities defined by the Burkinabe authorities.
"Our aim is to be partners who support the priorities defined by the Burkinabe authorities," he stated, emphasizing the need to ensure the effectiveness and monitoring of funded actions.
According to him, Belgium, a partner of Burkina Faso for several decades, is preparing a new cooperation program. He indicated that approximately 40 million euros have already been allocated to a specific cooperation program with Burkina Faso, also mentioning 51 million euros mobilized for direct projects carried out primarily by NGOs, in addition to humanitarian assistance.
For the acting governor of Kouls, the integrated agroecological farm of Korsimoro represents a structuring investment with a strong impact on local communities.
"These are major achievements that allow these actors to produce in all seasons. These are the kinds of structural investments that the government expects," stressed Bernadette Adenyo/Serm.
