Benin: The Workers' Trade Union Confederation (CSTB) will organize a demonstration on January 25, 2025, to demand the departure of the French army from the country, convinced that French troops create and develop terrorism in African countries where they are present as part of military cooperation. "It is common knowledge that the presence of French military troops in countries, particularly colonized ones, within the framework of military cooperation, has only created and developed terrorism," said the confederal secretary general, Nani Kassa Mampo.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Secretary General of the CSTB denounced an attitude of the French forces which, he claims, favors the expansion of terrorism in African states, thus arousing the indignation of the local populations. "Wherever they are present, the populations demand their departure," he added. These remarks were made on Friday, January 10, 2025, in Cotonou, in reaction to a terrorist attack during which around thirty Beninese soldiers were killed.
Nani Kassa Mampo presented her condolences to the Beninese people for this tragedy which has brought mourning to the nation, before inviting citizens to a meeting at the Cotonou Labor Exchange on Saturday, January 25, 2025, to demand the immediate departure of French troops from Benin. On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Benin suffered the most cruel terrorist attack it has ever known in the tri-border area (Burkina Faso, Niger, Benin), at the W park.
This attack adds to and adds to the list of victims of attacks that the country has experienced in recent years.
