Bingo: The President of the special delegation (PDS) of Bingo, Yacouba Gouem, visited agricultural perimeters in Koulgorin, located 35 km from Bingo, to assess progress in the agropastoral offensive aimed at achieving food self-sufficiency.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Yacouba Gouem was accompanied by the Secretary General of the town hall, Roger Ouedraogo, and the Head of the Technical Support Zone in agriculture, Rasmane Sawadogo. The delegation visited two significant production sites in Koulgorin to observe ongoing agricultural projects.
The first stop was the rice-growing area in Koulgorin, developed over 24 hectares for the benefit of the village's women. This initiative receives technical and financial backing from the RESI-2P program. On the site, Gouem highlighted the community's strong involvement and the continuous support from the beneficiaries' spouses, stating that the development serves as a model for promoting local consumption and reducing reliance on imports.
The delegation then proceeded to the market garden site in Zekemzougou, where a two-hectare plot is dedicated to tomato production, supported by the Dangoumana Agricultural Development Project. The PDAD noted satisfaction with the crop progress, viewing it as evidence of the communities' ability to enhance economic resilience.
At the conclusion of his visit, Yacouba Gouem commended local stakeholders for their dedication and urged the youth of Bingo to participate actively in agriculture. He emphasized that engaging young people in agriculture is crucial for securing the future, addressing rural exodus, and fostering national pride through local product promotion.
Municipal authorities consider these local initiatives as vital components in achieving the national food self-sufficiency goals set by Burkina Faso's leadership.
