Bale: The city of Boromo hosted the delayed celebration of World Water Day 2026, organized by the Regional Directorate of Agriculture, Water, Animal and Fisheries Resources (DRAERAH) of the Bankui region at the Boromo Public Primary School D, under the theme adopted in Burkina Faso: 'Water: a vital resource and a source of sovereignty'.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the commemorative day began with guided tours of the rehabilitated drinking water system, the latrines built in the Boromo health district, and the drinking water network extension work for the benefit of ONEA. The event also showcased two fountains funded by the European Union, with various socio-professional groups of the region in attendance.
The celebration featured speeches, skits, dance performances, and pledges. Isae Bamogo, president of the special delegation of the Boromo commune, expressed support for initiatives that ensure equitable access to water and promote women's leadership in the area.
Ga«l Sidbewendin Yameogo, the regional director of agriculture, water, animal and fisheries resources of Bankui, highlighted the 68.9% rate of access to drinking water in 2025, attributing this progress to the efforts of the government and its partners like Enabel. He emphasized the need for collective commitment to sustainable water management.
An official from Enabel stated the agency's partnership with the Burkinabe government focuses on improving access to basic social services. She called for a commitment to ensure access to quality water and dignified sanitation services for everyone.
Representing the governor, Bassouleymane Ouattara, High Commissioner of Mouhoun, noted that Bale's selection to host the celebration was significant due to its 90.7% access rate to drinking water. He encouraged continued efforts to maintain growth, given that only 78.9% of the Burkinabe population has access to drinking water.
