Bougouriba: Following the official announcement of the suspension of political parties and formations in Burkina Faso, decided during the Council of Ministers held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, citizens of the commune of Bondigui, in the province of Bougouriba, gave their opinions through a street interview conducted by AIB.
According to Burkina Information Agency, those interviewed welcomed a decision which they considered consistent with the national context marked by major security, social, and economic challenges.
For Parfait Dabire, a public servant at the departmental high school, this measure constitutes a strong and courageous act taken in the best interests of the nation. According to him, the suspension of political parties could contribute to strengthening social cohesion and community spirit, often undermined by political divisions. "In the past, political parties have been a source of division within our villages, our families, and our communities," he stated. Given the current situation in the country, he believes that the time for political disagreements is over; now is the time to unite all active forces around a common ideal. To this end, he called upon the population to demonstrate obedience, discipline, openness, and sincerity in order to support the ongoing progressive and popular revolution.
For his part, Ousmane Sanfo, a shopkeeper, also welcomed a decision he deemed relevant and timely. According to him, the national context is not conducive to political debates or the organization of elections, but rather to a sacred union around the objectives of the Revolution. He emphasized that, contrary to the common perception of Burkina Faso as an impoverished country, the revolutionary momentum initiated by Captain Ibrahim Traore has, in his view, enabled the acquisition of military equipment and the construction of infrastructure without excessive recourse to debt. For Mr. Sanfo, the suspension of political parties will promote the pooling of efforts and encourage the commitment of all the sons and daughters of the nation to the defense of the homeland.
For her part, Sere Sou, a shopkeeper, believes that the suspension of political parties and organizations is a beneficial decision for Burkina Faso. She points out that, beyond political divisions and rivalries, some crises have occasionally resulted in loss of life. She also noted that the state was devoting significant financial resources to the operation of political parties, resources that could now be redirected towards other priority sectors of national development. According to her, this measure will allow the sons and daughters of the country to have a common vision and to work together for the common good.
In Bondigui, these opinions reflect a notable support from a segment of the population for the government decision, perceived as a response to the demands of the moment.
