Bougouriba/Diebougou Vacances Foot: USD Triumphs Over EDD in Penalty Shootout Finale


Bougouriba: The 15th edition of the Maracana football tournament ‘Diebougou Vacances Foot’ concluded on the grounds of the Diebougou C and D public primary schools. Union Sportive de Diebougou (USD) claimed victory against Espoir de Demain (EDD) in a penalty shootout, lifting the trophy in front of an enthusiastic crowd.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the final match was a gripping contest that ended in a 1-1 draw after regulation time, leading to a penalty shootout. USD managed to convert two penalties, while EDD failed to score any, securing the win for USD. The victory was celebrated with jubilant scenes on the pitch by both players and fans alike.



The winning team received a trophy, medals, a ball, a set of jerseys, and an envelope containing 100,000 CFA francs. EDD, the runners-up, were awarded medals, a ball, a set of jerseys, and 75,000 CFA francs. The third prize went to Sans Frontiere, who received 50,000 CFA francs, a ball, and a set of jerseys, while Alliance FC, finishing fourth, received 25,000 CFA francs and a ball.



The president of the association “Youo-Liiye,” organizer of the tournament, Augias Togo Da, emphasized the competition’s goal of fostering social cohesion among young people, especially during challenging security times. The tournament sponsor, Fabrice Some, expressed his passion for football and its societal impact, underscoring the importance of such events in uplifting spirits.



Coaches from both finalist teams shared their thoughts. Ismael Sidibe of USD praised the resilience of his players, while EDD’s Sie Oumar Loukman Ouattara accepted the outcome, noting the unpredictable nature of finals.



The tournament began on August 10, featuring 16 teams divided into four groups and spanning 32 matches. The final was graced by the presence of the High Commissioner of Bougouriba, Amidou Konate, representing the Governor of the Djoro region. The event’s organizers expressed satisfaction with the successful conclusion of this edition and extended gratitude to partners and volunteers, already looking forward to the next edition.
