Bougouriba: The DiEbougou Community Coordination organized the second edition of the Community Day on Saturday, May 9, 2026, under the theme: 'Cultural Identity and Social Cohesion', AIB noted. The ceremony, held on the grounds of the DiEbougou A public primary school, mobilized administrative, customary and municipal authorities as well as several communities living in the commune.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this edition took place in a context marked by the promotion of living together, the appreciation of cultural identities and the strengthening of social cohesion in the commune of DiEbougou. The president of the Communal Coordination of Communities, KirmantE Germain Sou, stated that the organization of the event was based essentially on the contributions of the different communities living in DiEbougou. 'All communities have committed themselves. It is the communities themselves who have contributed resources and means,' he said. Mr. Sou recalled that the commune of DiEbougou has about fifteen communities coexisting in perfect harmony, making it one of the most cosmopolitan communes in the Dj´r´ region. However, he expressed a desire for broader community participation in future editions. 'We continue to raise awareness so that all communities embrace this initiative. What we are doing is for ourselves and for the preservation of our social cohesion,' he added.
The various communities present showcased their cultural riches through performances of traditional dances, exhibitions of local food, musical sounds and scenes of joking kinship. In this spirit of fraternity, the Dagara-Dioula communities symbolically offered porridge to the Mossi community, who in turn presented them with a dish of beans. The Fulani and Bwaba communities also exchanged traditional foods, including fresh milk and t´ (a type of millet porridge).
The patron of the ceremony, Dr. Dramane KonatE, technical advisor to the Ministry in charge of Culture, praised an initiative that reflects the values of solidarity, mutual aid, hospitality and fraternity between peoples. 'Ethno-cultural diversity should not be a source of division. Seeing communities come together through music, dance and messages of peace shows that DiEbougou is setting a good example in terms of social cohesion,' he said. He also stressed the need to pass these values on to younger generations in order to perpetuate ancestral traditions.
Representing the High Commissioner of the Bougouriba province, the Secretary General of the province, ZEnabo KaborE/Diallo, patron of the ceremony, invited the people to translate into daily life the messages of peace, tolerance and solidarity conveyed during the event. Alongside this day, a women's cycling race held on a 3.6 kilometer urban circuit brought together 27 competitors in the city streets. The day before, exhibition football matches between communities linked by joking kinship took place at the Jean-Baptiste Ouattara stadium. The matches resulted in a 1-1 draw between Peulh and Bwaba, a 0-0 draw between Mossi and Dagara-Dioula, and a 1-1 draw between the Dj´r´ and Tannounyan regions.
After the officials visited the exhibition stands, the celebration continued with a tasting of local dishes in an atmosphere accompanied by traditional music. The next edition of the Community Day is scheduled for 2027.
