Boulgou: The agricultural VDP (Volunteers for the Development of Agriculture) in the commune of Niaogho, Boulgou province, are projecting a harvest of more than 10 tons of cowpeas at the end of the 2026 agricultural season, thanks to substantial support in the form of seeds, to actively contribute to food self-sufficiency in Burkina Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the momentum toward food self-sufficiency initiated in Burkina Faso is finding a receptive audience in the Boulgou province. In Niaogho, agricultural volunteers have mobilized to ensure a successful harvest this season.

Welcoming the commitment of the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traor, local stakeholders expressed their satisfaction with the institutional support received. This equipment and these inputs should enable them to realize their ambitions on the ground.

'We received 120 kg of 70-day cowpea seeds (Kombal variety), 150 kg of 85-day maize seeds (Barka variety), 1 kg of okra, two tarpaulins, an electronic seed drill, and a sprayer,' explained Asstou Sinka, vice-president of the agricultural VDP (Volunteers for the Development of Agriculture) in Niaogho.

With this equipment, the organization intends to live up to the trust placed in it by the national authorities. The goal is now set: to exceed 10 tons of cowpea harvested by the end of the season.

Comrade Assetou Sinka stated that some challenges remain in ensuring the yield of longer-cycle crops. "Given the advanced rainy season and the maize maturation period (85 days), we are requesting additional support in the form of MPK fertilizers and herbicides to prevent rainfall fluctuations from compromising the harvest."

Despite these constraints, enthusiasm remains intact within the group, which reiterated its gratitude to the government for this strategic support in local agropastoral development.
