Boulgou: The final of the second edition of the Boulgou District Football Cup lived up to all its promises, crowning Sigri FC, winner by 3 goals to 0 against Boussouma FC. Beyond the score, the event primarily marks the resurgence of local football after several years of stagnation.
According to Burkina Information Agency, a high-quality final, under the banner of social cohesion, was held under the patronage of Emile Zabsonr©, Secretary General of the Ministry of Family and National Solidarity, and drew a large crowd eager to experience the excitement of local football. Despite the poor condition of the pitch, both teams put on an enjoyable display.
"Sport is now a major factor in social cohesion, bringing people together and fostering better living conditions, especially in the current context," emphasized the head of the ceremony. Expressing his satisfaction with the level of play, he praised the quality of the final, comparing it, in his opinion, to some major televised matches.
For Emile Zabsonr©, this competition is also an expression of solidarity and a concrete commitment to supporting the development of sport in the region. He encouraged those involved to continue their efforts to make football a driver of local development.
Initiated by the Boulgou football district, led by Mazou Minoungou, the competition aims to revive football in the province, where "the ball had not been rolling for almost eight years." Launched on January 17, 2026, this second edition brought together 12 teams, both affiliated and unaffiliated, for a total of 15 matches played and 35 goals scored. Organizers deemed this level of participation satisfactory.
"We are very pleased, especially to see teams from the villages reach the final. This proves that football is experiencing a revival throughout the province," stated the district president. He welcomed the growing enthusiasm surrounding the competition, which helps strengthen community ties and identify new talent.
Despite the challenges, particularly financial and administrative ones, the organizers intend to stay the course. Their ambition is clear: to promote one or more local teams to League 3, League 2, or even League 1 in the medium term. On the field, Sigri FC dominated the final thanks to goals from Micka«l Ange Kouakou, Gr©goire Yabr©, and Amza Traor©, sealing a resounding victory against Boussouma FC.
This second edition of the Boulgou District Cup appears to be a decisive turning point for local football. Between renewed popular enthusiasm, the emergence of talent, and the strong commitment of those involved, football now seems to be well and truly revived in the province, bringing hope and social cohesion.
