BRICS summit shows West no longer has monopoly on world, says Paris

The BRICS summit in Kazan shows that the West no longer has a monopoly on the world, Benjamin Haddad, French Minister Delegate for Europe, said on LCI channel.

In the context of the “BRICS summit and the US elections [that will take place] in a few weeks and which will have major consequences for the security of Europe and transatlantic relations, Europe, the West realizes that we no longer have a monopoly on the world,” he noted. Western countries must be able to “carry this message to the countries of the South” when it comes to support for Ukraine and “the capabilities of Europeans to defend our vision of the world, our interests, our security and our strategic autonomy,” the diplomat stressed.

The 16th BRICS summit is being held in Kazan from October 22 to 24. On the second day of the summit, the participants adopted the Kazan Declaration. The main topics discussed in this document are the development of the association, the position on global issues and the settlement of regional crises, including tho
se in Ukraine and the Middle East.

The BRICS group was founded in 2006. In 2011, South Africa joined the initial composition (Brazil, Russia, India and China). On January 1, 2024, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia and Iran became full members of the group.
