Burkina: A club officially opened to allow seniors to rediscover their joie de vivre

The Seniors Club located in sector 44 in district n°10 (Zone 1) of the city of Ouagadougou officially opened its doors last Friday evening, with a view to allow seniors to rediscover their joie de vivre through various activities such as board games, music, etc.

“Let’s make this club together, a pleasant setting, where we can remember our beautiful memories, our youth but also a place to receive advice from our doctors”, urged the promoter of the seniors’ club, Mrs. Régine Zombra, to people. of the 3rd age .

She said that the framework will allow seniors to regain their joy of living, through various activities such as gymnastics, board games, dance music.

Ms. Zombra was speaking on Friday June 23, 2023 in Ouagadougou, at the premises of the Center-Espérance-coupe-couture in Zone 1 (district 10), on the occasion of the official opening ceremony of the seniors’ club.

She also indicated that doctors are committed to supporting the recreational environment with advice, in order to enable the elderly to change their eating habits and behaviors to live a long life.

The promoter invited seniors to consume herbal teas (lemongrass, basilica) daily, which contain many therapeutic virtues for the human body.

“If they have lost the joy of living, this is the place to remember their past to extend their life expectancy,” she said.

Ms. Régine Zombra says she is counting on the support of goodwill to offer board games (lido, lady, card games) to seniors.

Dance evenings are scheduled on Fridays and Saturdays from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., gymnastics sessions every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. with free access to the club.

The president of the National Council of the informal economy of Burkina Faso, Salifou Nikièma appreciated the initiative of the promoter, which according to him, will allow seniors to extend their life expectancy.

For him, people aged 50 and over will also vibrate to the rhythm of melodies from ancient times.

“This club is a remedy for seniors. These are people who no longer leave their homes easily. The opening of such a recreational framework will bring more to their lives,” he said.

Nikièma also hoped that peace would return to Burkina while welcoming the work of the fighting forces on the ground, in the reconquest of the national territory.

At this opening ceremony, one of the pioneers of Burkinabè music, the artist-musician, Issouf Compaoré kept the audience spellbound with his songs “Dis que je l’attends” and “Tanga Sega”.

To this end, the sexagenarian couple Zombra, won the 1st prize in dance, with the sum of 50 thousand FCFA and the second prize, 25 thousand FCFA went to another sixty-year-old couple.

Note that the senior club is housed in the premises of the Center-Espérance-coupe-couture in Zone 1 (arrondissement 10), after the Charles De Gaulle pediatric hospital, going towards the East interchange.
