Ouagadougou: The head of government, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo, indicated on Friday, during his address on the situation of the Nation, that Burkina Faso produced more than 53,000 tonnes of fish in 2025, including more than 17,000 tonnes from floating cages.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the installation of 1,185 floating cages, the production of over 104 million fingerlings, and the establishment of 500 private fish farms made this performance possible. The head of government further stated that these results have contributed to the creation of sustainable jobs and new sources of income for the population.
Regarding livestock and fisheries production, he also noted that the government's efforts have continued to achieve the expected results. Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo cited, among other things, the production and distribution of over 8,000 tons of feed for stakeholders in the sector, the vaccination of 7 million head of cattle and 18 million head of poultry, the development of over 5,000 hectares of pastoral areas, and the registration of 200 hectares of forage crops.
"Despite these performances, the government is aware that challenges remain and 2026 will be the year of consolidating the gains," the Prime Minister assured.
