Ouagadougou: The Thomas Sankara International Memorial Committee (CIM-TS) commemorated the 43rd anniversary of the Democratic and Popular Revolution of August 4, 1983, by announcing the creation of an International Che Guevara Center, aimed at fostering a new generation of responsible and engaged citizens.According to Burkina Information Agency, the committee's chairman, Souleymane Zerbo, revealed plans to establish the Che Guevara International Center along with the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela School of Political, Civic, and Strategic Education. These institutions will focus on training citizens, leaders, and managers to promote sovereignty, collective responsibility, civic discipline, Pan-Africanism, and social transformation.The announcement was made during a press conference marking the commemoration of the 4th anniversary of the Democratic and Popular Revolution. Zerbo emphasized that commemorating August 4th is not merely about celebrating the past, but about keeping a legacy alive and using it as ins piration to tackle contemporary challenges.He outlined the committee's intention to transition from a memorial organization to a reference institution, capable of training individuals, generating ideas, mobilizing citizens, and contributing to significant debates on sovereignty, endogenous development, governance, and Africa's future.Zerbo also announced the forthcoming launch of "Sankara Store," a venture based on popular shareholding to allow citizens to contribute to preserving collective memory while engaging in a patriotic entrepreneurial project. The initiative aims to promote values of solidarity, transparency, national production, and economic autonomy.These principles are seen as essential for strengthening the political, economic, social, and cultural foundations of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), transforming it into a region of peace, security, shared prosperity, and dignity. The CIM-TS encourages Burkina Faso and ESA member states to adopt the governance model championed by Thomas Sanka ra, focusing on the primacy of the general interest, citizen mobilization, integrity, good governance, economic sovereignty, and cooperation based on mutual respect and common interests.
