Ottawa: On Thursday, April 16, the Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Canada, H.E. Ms. Nandy SOME/DIALLO, presented her Letters of Credence to Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary May SIMON, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada. The ceremony, held at the Governor General's official residence, included protocol honours, the formal presentation of the Letters of Credence, and interactions with the Governor General and other diplomats.
According to Burkina Information Agency, during her meeting, Ambassador SOME/DIALLO conveyed the fraternal greetings of His Excellency Captain Ibrahim TRAORE and the Burkinab¨ people to the Governor General and the Canadian citizens. She also reiterated Burkina Faso's dedication to the diplomatic relations established with Canada since 1962 and highlighted the Head of State's desire to strengthen these ties in key mutually beneficial sectors.
In response, the Governor General expressed her aspirations to enhance bilateral relations and highlighted Canada's readiness to work towards strengthening them. The event marks a new phase in the diplomatic relations between Burkina Faso and Canada, promising a lasting and balanced partnership.
Prior to this ceremony, figurative copies of the Letters of Credence were presented to Mr. Sebastien CARRIERE, Chief of Protocol of Canada, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Ms. Nandy SOME/DIALLO was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Burkina Faso to Canada during the Council of Ministers session on January 22, 2026.
