Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe press on Monday highlighted key national events, including the anniversaries of the National Armed Forces and the popular insurrection of October 30 and 31, 2014, alongside the conclusion of the 36th Tour du Faso 2025.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the state daily Sidwaya featured the headline “36th Tour du Faso: Paul Daumont, historic yellow jersey,” celebrating Burkinabe cyclist Paul Daumont’s victory. Daumont claimed both the yellow and green jerseys during the final held in Ouagadougou, solidifying his reputation as the leading cyclist after his previous win in 2023. L’Observateur Paalga, a prominent private daily, echoed this sentiment, noting Daumont’s dominance in the race. Le Pays reported Daumont’s triumph in the last stage from Sapone to Ouagadougou, covering 113.250 km, while highlighting Malian Tiemoko Diamoutene and Moroccan El Alouani as the second and third place finishers, respectively.
Under another headline, Sidwaya recognized the 65th anniversary of the National Armed Forces (FAN). The paper reported that Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo visited wounded soldiers at the Captain Halassane-Coulibaly military hospital in Ouagadougou, symbolizing the nation’s support for its injured veterans. Observer Paalga detailed the Prime Minister’s role, representing President Captain Ibrahim Traore at the FAN’s anniversary ceremony, focusing on the theme “National Armed Forces engaged with the people in the People’s Progressive Revolution for a sovereign defense of the territory.” Le Pays added that President of Faso paid tribute to the Fighting Forces during the event.
In remembrance of the popular insurrection of October 30 and 31, 2014, the same newspaper emphasized the enduring memory of the nation’s heroes. Sidwaya reported that Ousmane Bougouma, President of the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT), laid a wreath on October 31, 2025, honoring victims of the 2014 insurrection and the September 2015 coup. Observer Paalga reflected on remarks from Victor Pouahoulabou, President of the Union of Families of the Martyrs of the Popular Insurrection, affirming that the sacrifices of these heroes were not in vain.
