Burkina Faso deplores the silence of the Ivorian authorities following opposition to the holding of the Patriotic Day of its nationals in Abidjan

The Burkinabe authorities summoned the Ivorian embassy in Ouagadougou to deplore the silence of the Ivorian authorities after an association banned the holding of the Burkinabe patriotic mobilization day in Abidjan.Burkina Faso expressed its "incomprehension" and deplored "the silence of the Ivorian authorities" to the chargé d'affaires of the Ivorian embassy in Ouagadougou, Justine Gosse, summoned on September 30 to the Burkinabe Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the banning in Abidjan of the Patriotic Mobilization Day of Burkinabe nationals by the Ivorian Youth Alliance association."This summons follows the silence observed by the Ivorian authorities, after the publication of a press release from the Alliance of Ivorian Youth (AJI) which strongly expressed its opposition to the holding on September 28, 2024, of the Special Day of Patriotic Mobilization announced by Mr. Dié Millogo, chargé d'affaires of Burkina Faso in Abidjan," reports the communications service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.Ms. Gosse expressed her surprise at the publication of this press release by the AJI and condemned this act, stating that the Ivorian authorities were not informed of the ins and outs of this situation."We are also surprised to see the statement. We do not know the sponsors of this information and we also regret it," she said.Ms. Fosse promised to refer to the highest authorities of her country to clarify the circumstances and avoid any future confusion.The two sides reiterated the importance of the historical and geographical ties between Burkina Faso and Côte d'Ivoire, agreeing to strengthen their cooperation to avoid such misunderstandings in the future.Source: Burkina Information Agency
