Koudougou: The governor of the Nando region, Adama Jean Yves Bere, presided over the opening of a three-day national workshop in Koudougou, focusing on developing cross-border cooperation strategies between Burkina Faso and Ghana.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this meeting aims to create draft action plans and agreements for the consultation framework between the border administrative authorities of Burkina Faso and Ghana. Regional authorities from Dj´r´, Nakambe, Nando, and Nazinon are gathering in Koudougou to establish a more dynamic cross-border administrative cooperation with neighboring Ghana.
For 72 hours, from April 13 to 15, participants are working on drafting strategic documents to manage exchanges between the two countries. This is in line with the framework cooperation agreement signed on February 20, 2026, in Ouagadougou. Governor Bere emphasized that this initiative addresses the many current challenges. He stated, "In a sub-regional context marked by growing security, economic, and social challenges, cross-border cooperation appears as a strategic lever to promote integrated, peaceful, and prosperous border areas."
Mr. Bere also encouraged the experts present to produce quality documents, highlighting that this workshop is a significant preparatory step before the major bilateral meeting between the administrative authorities of the two nations. The meeting includes not only the governors of the regions involved but also regional directors of economy and planning, the permanent secretariat of the National Border Commission (SP-CNF), and representatives of the ministries responsible for Territorial Administration and Foreign Affairs.
The work is supported technically and financially by GIZ, through the African Union Border Programme (AUBP).
