Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe government has taken decisive action by dismissing two National Police officers accused of embezzling over 45 million CFA francs in public funds. This decision was made during a recent Council of Ministers meeting, highlighting the government’s commitment to addressing corruption within its ranks.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Security Minister Mahamadou Sana revealed that the embezzlement involved 45,216,000 CFA francs, which had been allocated to support the operations of the Mobile Intervention Unit (UMI) of the National Police. This unit is based in Koin, located in the Bankui region. The officers implicated in this misconduct are Police Lieutenant Tiao B. Nicolas, who headed the administrative and financial department, and Police Sergeant Ilboudo Pawentor Marcelin, the head of logistics in the same department.

The Council of Ministers has approved their dismissal in line with Law No. 027-2018, which pertains to the status of the National Police cadre, and Decree No. 2019-0406, which outlines the general disciplinary regulations of the National Police. This action underscores the government’s resolve to uphold the principles of the Popular Progressive Revolution, which advocates for transparent management of public resources and a zero-tolerance approach to corruption across all sectors.
