Ouagadougou: The Global BTP Drone Center launched a training session on Monday in Ouagadougou aimed at enhancing the piloting skills of civilian drones for the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) in a bid to bolster their operational capabilities amid a challenging security landscape. Commissioner Ouedraogo lauded the initiative, recognizing it as a patriotic effort to support national endeavors in combating terrorism and reestablishing control over the territory. He emphasized that mastering modern technologies, notably drones, serves as a strategic asset in enhancing the intervention, surveillance, and intelligence capabilities of field forces.
During his address to the participants, Commissioner Ouedraogo urged them to maintain discipline, commitment, and seriousness throughout the training to effectively utilize their newfound skills for the nation's benefit. Patricia Ouedraogo, the coordinator of Le Global BTP Drone, highlighted that the training aligns with a partnership with the Ministry of Security. Established in 2021, the Global BTP Drone Center is actively involved in the building and public works sectors and provides vocational training, especially in civilian drone piloting. Through this initiative, it reaffirms its dedication to fostering technical skill development in Burkina Faso, as stated by Ms. Ouedraogo. Trainer Benjamin Mabeta elaborated that the training, spanning one week, will be conducted in three phases, blending theoretical and practical elements. The theoretical component, lasting about three days, will cover essential topics such as regulations, navigation, meteorology, drone knowledge, and human factors, followed by practical field exercises conducted both day and night.
Mr. Mabeta explained that the training aims to enhance participants' proficiency in drone usage, focusing on surveillance, data collection, and thermal imaging. He noted that the session is designed to refine the skills of participants already acquainted with these technologies. Chief Warrant Officer Sorgho Pierre, a participant from the National Gendarmerie headquarters, expressed his appreciation to the training organizers and the supervising ministry. He assured that the skills acquired will be instrumental in their daily missions and the broader fight against terrorism. Mr. Sorgho also highlighted the significance of sharing knowledge with colleagues and expressed confidence in the quality of support provided by the center.
