Burkina faso: The Hound© gold mine, the second largest in Burkina Faso and operated by Endeavour Mining, organized a press tour from June 3 to 4, 2026, bringing together several media outlets. This immersive experience aimed to raise awareness of the various stages of mining activity as well as its environmental and socioeconomic impacts.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the mine's general manager, Adama Savadogo, emphasized that this visit was an opportunity to present the realities of the mining sector and to dispel some misunderstandings. "This visit allows us to show concretely what we do and to clear up any misunderstandings that may exist about the mining industry in general and our activities in particular," he stated.
Mr. Savadogo praised the efforts of the communications team and the dedication of the staff who facilitated the event. He also conveyed the mine's willingness to host future press visits to ensure that the public receives all necessary information.
eavour Mining's Country Director, Souleymane Boly, highlighted the company's performance during the visit, noting that Endeavour is the leader in gold production in West Africa and the leading producer in Burkina Faso, thanks to the Hound© and Mana mines. "We are one of the largest private contributors to the Burkinabe economy," he asserted. Boly further noted that Endeavour Mining employs 2,825 people, 97% of whom are national workers, including 46% from local communities, with expatriates making up just 3%. The annual payroll amounts to 45 billion CFA francsBoly added that the company's economic contribution to Burkina Faso reached 620 billion FCFA in 2025. The country accounts for 35% of Endeavour's production and 40% of its contributions to the public treasury, thereby occupying a strategic position in its portfolio of activities.
The visit commenced with an overview of the occupational health and safety procedures. Department head, Fr©d©ric Som©, explained that the mine has been certified to the international standard ISO 45001 since 2023, reflecting its commitment to rigorous accident prevention measures and promoting a safety culture among staff. He noted that the mine has not experienced any fatal accidents since construction began in 2016. This safety record, along with its cyanide management system and other mechanisms, has earned the mine several awards, including the best occupational health service in Burkina Faso.
Environmentally, Mr. Som© indicated that the mine employs management systems focused on pollution prevention, sustainable environmental protection, conservation of natural areas, and waste recovery. "These efforts have been recognized by the Ministry in charge of the Environment, which awarded the mine a certificate of recognition for its environmental governance and its support for reforestation initiatives in the province and the region," he said.
Socially, Sadou Ou©draogo, a supervisor in the social performance department, explained that the mine's social initiatives are primarily based on investments through the Mining Development Fund (FMD), the Livelihood Restoration Plan (PRMS), and income-generating activities (IGAs) for the benefit of local communities.
