Burkina faso: A pilot project has enabled the restoration of several pieces of state-owned computer equipment. The ICT program in Faso (PROTAF), in partnership with the National Agency for the Promotion of ICT (ANPTIC), held a press conference this Saturday, March 14, to present the results of a pilot project called "PROTAF Recycling", aimed at recycling outdated computer equipment from the State in order to give it a second life and redistribute it to the population.According to Burkina Information Agency, the inventory of computer equipment restored as part of this pilot project includes: 22 central processing units, 10 functional monitors, 5 defective monitors being repaired, 10 USB keyboards, 24 power cables, 12 VGA cables and 5 USB mice. The coordinator of the ICT program in Faso, Wongnin Zerbo, stated that this initiative consists of recovering decommissioned computer equipment from public services, repairing it and restoring it to working order in order to give it a second life."We are presenting t o national and international public opinion the results of a pilot project. The objective is to enhance the value of state investments by recycling decommissioned computer equipment in order to redistribute it to local authorities," he explained. He specified that the program also aims to decentralize computer knowledge and access to technologies for the benefit of the population.In this context, a tour is planned from March 17 to 30, 2026 in the municipalities of Solenzo, Gourcy, and Tougan. This tour will include training sessions in office computing, awareness-raising on the State's digital services, as well as the distribution of recycled equipment to vulnerable people, including widows and orphans of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).The Director of Communication, Djelika Drabo, representing the ministry in charge of Digital Transition, praised this initiative, which she described as a civic contribution to the development of the country. A ccording to her, this action is in line with the vision of the Burkinabe authorities to promote digitalization and access to digital technologies throughout the national territory."The Minister of Digital Transition, Posts and Electronic Communications, Aminata Zerbo/Sabane, wants digitalization to reach all localities in Burkina Faso, down to the smallest village, so that every citizen has access to the Internet and digital services," she said. Ms. Drabo also encouraged citizen initiatives and invited national talent to become more involved in projects contributing to the country's development.The first edition of the PROTAF Recycling program is placed under the patronage of Minister Aminata Zerbo/Sabane and the co-patronage of the Minister of Economy and Finance, Aboubacar Nacanabo.
