Burkina Faso Launches Regional Culture Weeks 2025, Emphasizing Cultural Heritage

Kaya: The Minister of Culture, Pingdwende Gilbert Ouedraogo, affirmed Saturday in Kaya, during the official launch of the Regional Culture Weeks (SRC) 2025, that artists are builders of a strong cultural future. “Through their creativity and talent, artists bring our heritage to life and transmit our values. They are the true ambassadors of our identity and the builders of a strong cultural future,” the minister said. Mr. Ouedraogo added that culture is neither an ornament nor an accessory, but “a pillar of development, an instrument of social cohesion and a catalyst for peace.” “Culture is the soul of our social being,” he insisted.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the spokesperson for the sponsors, the Minister in charge of Secondary Education, Aboubacar Savadogo, invited the artists to participate in a dynamic of excellence in order to promote the Koulse region during the SNC. He emphasized that artistic competitions, far from being simple exhibitions, are a reflection of the cultural and historical identity of Burkina Faso, as well as its resilience.

The SRCs will take place from September 6 to October 23, 2025, in the 13 administrative regions, pending the operationalization of the new regions. They will also be organized in Cote d’Ivoire and in the member countries of the Confederation of Sahel States. These weeks provide a space for meeting, creation, and discovery, as well as a framework for selecting the best artistic talents.

The 22nd edition of the National Culture Week (SNC) will be held from April 25 to May 2, 2026, in Bobo-Dioulasso, under the theme: ‘Culture, youth and transmission of social values’.
