Banzon: Producers in Banzon participated in a tasting session on Saturday, November 15, 2025, to evaluate 11 new varieties of rice cultivated alongside two commonly used varieties. This event was part of a guided tour of the demonstration plots where these rice varieties are being grown.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the producers assessed the cooked rice under uniform conditions, focusing on several criteria including aroma, texture, color, cooking time, and flavor. Using observation sheets, they documented their preferences, with some favoring fragrant, long-grain varieties and others opting for softer or slightly sticky rice that is seen as more fitting for traditional dishes.
This tasting session is a significant step in the selection process for rice varieties. The results will be analyzed to determine the most promising varieties that could be recommended for future rice-growing seasons.
