According to Burkina Information Agency, the veterinary services intensified controls, inspecting 108 establishments and closing 3, and conducting 8 crackdowns that resulted in the seizure of 36 tons of counterfeit veterinary medicines. In the food sector, the DGSV inspected 559 establishments, issued 180 provisional authorizations, and seized 219.44 tons of unfit fish, 67 tons of meat, 146,220 eggs, and 135,750 fraudulently imported chicks. The information was given on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, by the Director General of Veterinary Services, Captain Aboubacar Nacro, during a press briefing in Ouagadougou.

According to the director, these results reflect the authorities' commitment to protecting consumer health, ensuring food safety, and strengthening local productivity through increased monitoring of the production and marketing chain of animal products. Before concluding his remarks, he also commended the availability and commitment of the technical and financial partners for their continued support.

For Dasmane Traore, president of the Burkina Faso Consumers' League (LCB), this initiative led by the DGSV is satisfactory, although further efforts are still possible. He indicated that these actions allow stakeholders to better understand prohibited practices and to comply more closely with regulations, in the general interest and for better consumer protection. He called on all stakeholders in the sector to "change their approach" by operating legally, in order to protect public health. Consumers were also urged to continue reporting suspected cases, stating that "remaining silent is to compromise oneself."
