Bobo-dioulasso: The Hounde gold mine, a subsidiary of the Endeavour Mining group, has been recognized for its exemplary occupational health services, receiving the award for best occupational health service from the Occupational Health Inspectorate (IMT), as announced by the company on Saturday.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the award was presented on April 29, 2026, in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso's second largest city, during World Day for Safety and Health at Work celebrations. These events were held under the auspices of the Ministry of Servants of the People. The initiative aims to recognize companies whose occupational health services adhere to national regulations and encourages the continuous improvement of prevention practices within the private sector.
The Occupational Health Inspectorate (IMT) awarded this distinction based on several criteria. These included obtaining official approval, employing qualified medical personnel, and ensuring the infrastructure and medical equipment on the mining site conformed to standards. The evaluation also examined the maintenance of mandatory records, the effectiveness of medical visits, emergency handling capabilities, and the monitoring of staff vaccination.
Adama Savadogo, General Manager of the Hounde mine, expressed that this recognition illustrates the mine's commitment to maintaining a safe working environment that meets high standards. Savadogo emphasized the importance of placing health and safety at the core of their operations.
The mining sector is crucial to Burkina Faso's economy, but it faces significant occupational risks. This requires operators to adopt stringent Health, Safety, and Environment policies to meet international standards. Endeavour Mining, a leading gold producer in West Africa, operates two mines in Burkina Faso, located in Hounde and Mana.
