Ouagadougou: In accordance with the instructions of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, the very first edition of the military ceremony in homage to the Father of the Burkinabe Revolution, Captain Thomas Sankara, was carried out Thursday in Ouagadougou, under the chairmanship of the President of the Transitional Legislative Assembly, Dr. Ousmane Bougouma.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this first ceremony was marked by a parade of horses and the performance of a song in tribute to the heroes of the Nation. This solemn event was designed to permanently carry the ideals of Thomas Sankara in the memory of the Burkinabe people, as stated by Minister of Communication Pingwende Gilbert Ouedraogo. He recalled that President Sankara was a statesman who accomplished much for Burkina Faso and whose vision continues to inspire people around the world today.
Minister Ouedraogo emphasized the global significance of Thomas Sankara, declaring, “We must have the humility to recognize that Thomas Sankara today is not a personality, an African icon, and a global icon.” He also extended an invitation to Burkinabe and Africans visiting Ouagadougou to join this initiative and help perpetuate the memory of Thomas Sankara.
As a reminder, on the instructions of the President of Faso, the Prime Minister announced on October 15, 2025, during the commemoration of the assassination of President Sankara, the establishment of a military ceremony to pay tribute to the illustrious deceased. This ceremony is scheduled to be organized every first Thursday of the month at the memorial which bears Sankara’s name.
