Ouagadougou:The Burkina Information Agency (AIB) is striving to balance the dissemination of reliable information with the protection of national interests amid growing disinformation campaigns. This was articulated by the agency's Director of Information, Tilado Apollinaire Abga, during a presentation at the 15th edition of the African Communication Universities of Ouagadougou (UACO).
According to Burkina Information Agency, Abga elaborated on the theme "Burkina Information Agency Factuality and the Commitment to Defending Informational Sovereignty," which was part of a broader discussion on the influence of African media in the communication landscape.
Abga emphasized that AIB's role extends beyond mere information dissemination; it actively works to amplify Burkina Faso's voice while maintaining the integrity of its reporting. He stated, "We are focused on providing facts to inform, but also on our commitment to defending our country."
The agency, established on May 27, 1964, faced significant challenges due to limited resources until President Captain Ibrahim Traoré revitalized it, transforming AIB into a Directorate General in August 2024. This transformation introduced new responsibilities, particularly in safeguarding national interests and sovereignty.
AIB has diversified its content with editorials, videos, and articles aimed at countering misleading narratives about Burkina Faso. Abga noted that the agency engages in strategic media monitoring to identify and address such campaigns, even taking proactive measures to anticipate them.
He also expressed a desire for further institutional support to solidify AIB's role in serving national interests, in line with the directives of Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
