The new Minister in charge of Agriculture, Ismael Sombié called on Tuesday, in Ouagadougou, during his installation, his collaborators to redouble their efforts to achieve the objectives expected by the Transition.

“Dear new committed collaborator, it is up to us to coordinate and implement the various programs and policies to feed Burkinabè and develop our country”, declared the new Minister of Agriculture, Animal and Fisheries Resources, Ismael Sombie.

He indicated that he arrives at the head of this department at an important turning point in the history of the nation where the country is engaged in the fight against terrorism in order to recover its sovereignty.

According to him, the first and big challenge is the present wet campaign which is already in full swing in certain regions of Burkina Faso.

“Agriculture is no longer used to feed the population but to produce foreign currency and the same is not true for livestock and fisheries resources,” he suggested.

To this end, “to get there we have to roll up our sleeves. Let us be proud to belong to this department and work to make Burkinabè agriculture and livestock all their places”, he continued.

He says he doesn’t believe in solitary victories.

“It is therefore together hand in hand that we are going to take up the many challenges that present themselves to all and this for the great happiness of the Burkinabe”.

He paid tribute to his predecessor, Dr. Denis Ouédraogo, who in eight (08) months added land to land in the long-term process of modernizing Burkinabè Agriculture in order to make it self-sufficient.

He also paid tribute to these men and women who have brought this ministry to the end and who are no longer of this world.

“I associate with these tributes our brave producers fallen in their field so that we lack nothing on our plates” he added.

Note that Ismaël Sombié was appointed Minister in charge of Agriculture during the cabinet reshuffle on Sunday June 25, 2023.
