Burkina: Intelligences gathered for “500 minutes” to find solutions to climate change

The Association for Development and the Fight against Climate Change (ADLCC) brought together intelligence on Friday for 500 minutes to find palliative solutions to climate change in Burkina Faso.

"We are delighted to see you all here to attend our 1st edition of 500 minutes of collective intelligence on the challenges related to climate change in Africa", indicated the president of the Association for Development and the Fight against Change (ADLCC), Sami Florent Palm.

According to him, the main objective of this activity is to set up multidisciplinary teams in order to find and propose innovative solutions to the challenges related to Climate Change in Burkina Faso and Africa.

It is, he continues, among other things to create a framework of collective intelligence bringing together students and actors of climate change from Burkina Faso and those of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), as well as other universities in Morocco. to raise awareness and train participants in the challenges of the phenomenon of climate change, with an emphasis on adaptation and innovation.

Sami Florent Palm also noted that at the end of this meeting, it will be a question of proposing innovative projects which aim to meet the specific challenges of climate change in Africa.

Mr. Palm said at the start of the activity that the 500 minutes of collective intelligence on climate change, organized by his structure, is being held from June 9 to 11, 2023.

“This activity was born thanks to the support of partners such as the NGO Pan-African Alliance for Climate Justice (PACJA) , the Thematic Group: Capacity Building and Technology Transfer (GTRCTT), International Student Club of the 'UM6P and WASCAL,' he said.

For the coordinator of the Pan-African Alliance for Climate Justice in Burkina, Oureratou Ouédraogo/Kambou, the ADLCC, by organizing this ceremony, cherishes the hope that at the end of this work, we will witness a collective awareness and a change in behavior to combat the effects of climate change.

“Difficult weather conditions and extreme phenomena such as drought, land degradation, deforestation have a negative impact on agriculture, livestock and water resources, resulting in acute food insecurity in the country” , she explained.

Ms. Kambou also mentioned armed terrorist groups that exploit tensions related to natural resources, exacerbated by the effects of climate change; anything that, according to her, aggravates the security situation in Burkina Faso.

It also calls on industrialized countries to invest more in the fight against the effects of climate change because Africa pollutes less than 4%.
