Ouagadougou: On the occasion of International Press Freedom Day, the Higher Council for Communication (CSC) launched a workshop this Friday to reflect on the patriotic commitment of the media in the context of a security crisis. The initiative aims to lay the foundations for a patriotic pact between the Burkinabe press and the Fighting Forces.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the workshop, themed "What contributions can the Burkinabe press make to the reconquest of the national territory and the affirmation of our full and complete sovereignty?", brought together leaders of professional media organizations (OPM), as well as publication directors from public and private bodies. The CSC's stated objective is clear: to encourage the media to play a more active role in the fight against terrorism, through more engaged citizen participation, while consolidating national sovereignty and supporting endogenous development efforts.
Following the discussions, the participants agreed to the upcoming development of a "patriotic press pact." A small group will be established in the coming days to work on the terms of reference for this document, which is intended to serve as an ethical and professional compass in this context of crisis. CSC President Louis Modeste Ou©draogo praised the quality of the work and the commitment of the participants. He emphasized the potential for the media to become more involved, stating, "We thought that at a time when we are fighting for major national and human causes, the media, although they have already made a contribution, could become more involved. As a regulator, we are very satisfied with how this workshop went."
