Burkina/Media: National daily staff urged to perpetuate 40-year legacy

Ouagadougou: The General Director of ‘Éditions Sidwaya’, Assétou Badoh, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the ‘Journal de tous les Burkinabè’, on Friday urged her collaborators to be proud of their jewel and to work to perpetuate a ‘national heritage’.

‘I would like to express all my admiration and congratulate you for the fight you are waging to maintain this newspaper which is a heritage. It’s a national heritage! », declared Friday morning the General Director of ‘Éditions Sidwaya’, Assétou Badoh/Guira, to her colleagues.

The workers of the ‘Journal de tous les Burkinabè’ had just sang the national anthem to mark the 40 years of the existence of their media.

‘It is a heritage and we have the obligation to perpetuate it from generation to generation,’ recommended Assétou Badoh.

She urged her collaborators to value their newspaper and to be ‘proud to be agents of Sidwaya’.

Ms. Badoh also paid vibrant tribute to those who had the idea of creating the daily newspaper, to the general directors who
preceded her and to all the agents who gave at least one day of their lives to ‘the Common House’.

As a reminder, the national daily Sidwaya was founded on April 5, 1984 by the revolutionary regime of President Thomas Sankara (1983-1987).

In the first editorial, Comrade Minister of Information, Adama Touré, explained that Sidwaya, which means “the truth has come”, is an essential tool for permanent information and mobilization of the people for the development and consolidation of the Democratic and popular revolution.

‘Sidwaya must at the same time be the voice of the Voltaic people and all their revolutionary organizations to express every day their concerns, their aspirations and magnify their struggles against their enemies for the construction of an Upper Volta (former name of Burkina Faso) new freed from imperialist domination and exploitation,’ he added.

Since 1999, the daily Sidwaya and the Burkina Information Agency (created in 1964) have been brought together to give birth to the press group ‘Le
s Éditions Sidwaya’.

In May, the group will cumulatively celebrate 40 years of Sidwaya and 60 years of AIB through several activities.
